Photograph what you feel is urgent, and what you are excited to talk about. Then go out and talk about it.

Opening July 7 at Station Independent Projects in New York City.

I’m pleased to announce that my photo, Barber and Beauty, was selected to appear in the upcoming Station Independent Projects exhibition, WE: AMEricans. Curator Ruben Natal-San Miguel created a show of established photographers alongside emerging talent.

Ruben’s vision for the show is defined as “WE: AMEricans – who we truly are as Americans: people, objects and places from all walks of life, from this great nation, currently challenged by a climate of racism, anger, political tensions and disparaging, the highest income and social inequality, xenophobia, homophobia, misogyny, police brutality, and terrorism.”

If you’re in NYC between July 7 and August 16, 2016, stop by Station Independent Projects gallery and visit the show.

THANK YOU Ruben for the opportunity to exhibit my work.

I have an ongoing portfolio of images that I create that fall into the exploratory category of “sketchbook”. It’s a place for me to flesh out ideas and see what I like, where I’ve succeeded and where I’ve failed. Most of all, it’s a place to shoot everything I see and learn more about myself and my art.

Following are some of the current items in the Sketchbook that caught my eye, and made me take note of my observations.

B A R B I E

The Barbie photos began in 2003 when a neighbor asked if I could create a photo archive of his vintage doll collection. That project evolved into a year-long Barbie Doll photo blog, which then became an exhibition of 25 portraits at Bruno David Gallery in St. Louis, MO, followed by an exhibition of 5 photos at Todd / Browning Gallery in Los Angeles, CA, then an exhibition of 1 Barbie at LightBox Photographic Gallery in Astoria, OR and an exhibition of 2 images at Ripe Art Gallery in Huntington, NY, where they were named winners in the Glamour Portrait category. Additionally, several Barbie series were exhibited online at L’oeil de la Photographie.

So it goes without saying that I actually enjoy photographing Barbies. Throughout the years I’ve created portfolios of original 1959-72 vintage dolls, neoclassical Barbies using miscellaneous doll heads, Dollar Store dolls bought right off the shelf, a Mattel classic remake of the very first Barbie, and of course, nudes.

Grouped below are selected images from 2007 to present day.
