Art is really in the whispers.

– Duane Michals

2 0 1 7 :  J A N U A R Y

It’s the gray/brown winter of the Great American Midwest. Mostly a time for me to hibernate and look at what other artists are working on.

Occasionally, the dull clouds of the St. Louis skies part and I’m able to get out in the cold and look for my next opportunity.

I created these five images on days when I was excited by the possibilities of making new photos and found the lighting and timing to be just right. I’m being more selective about my work, especially when considering why I’m releasing the shutter.

Shoot what you can’t help but shoot.

– Gregory Heisler

2 0 1 6 :  T H E  Y E A R  I N  R E V I E W

I spent the year looking.

Looking at the light.

Looking at the shadows.

Looking at things I had seen before.

Looking at things I hadn’t seen before.

Looking at everything.

Then I found it.

I found myself.

I found my voice.

I found how to express everything
I’ve learned in the past 40 years
of art school, gallery visits,
a graphic design career,
and endless observations.

To me these are private moments.

Personal experiences.

Things I know are important.

Things I want to share with others.

Things I want people to see.

To understand.

To discover.

.  .  .  To hear me.

You do the work and ignore the rest.
Then, after a lot of time, you have your work,
and you’ve ignored the rest.

Volume Two includes forty-two recent black and white images created in the past four months, along with a few photos selected from the archives.

I put a great deal of myself in this new direction and am very excited about the work represented. I feel like things are falling into place and I am reaching a point where my individual style is emerging.

The best comment I received so far was from Lynn, who said . . .

I started to draft you an email telling you about my favorite photo from the new series but I simply can’t because I love them all Larry! You’re a master in seeing and capturing light, shape, texture and humor. You deserve every compliment that comes your way. I think you’ve definitely found your groove.   – Lynn
